Safety – Heating systems are either fuel-burning or electric resistance. Both can be dangerous if not maintained, cleaned, and operation of safety controls are not checked.
Performance – A cooling system operating at peak performance cools faster, removes more humidity, and uses less energy. Have your system cleaned and your Freon and capacity checked by a professional technician.
Minimize Or Eliminate Repairs – With all mechanical equipment, small issues can easily turn to large, costly repairs. Have your system maintained, and cleaned at regular intervals or at least before the heating and cooling seasons.
Keep your filters clean. The natural path of airflow is through the filter until it becomes dirty, then the path is around it. Filters have two purposes: 1) clean the air as it circulates through the house, 2) keep dust and dirt from collecting on the equipment.
Keep your outside unit clean. Clear the area around the unit by trimming bushes and trees back and not storing items on or around it.

Typical equipment warranties for residential are covered by the manufacturer for 10-years on parts, 10-years on compressors, and 20+ years on heat exchangers. Labor and non-related parts, such Freon, welding gases, and shipping are not covered by the manufacturer. Douglas Mechanical, Inc. covers the labor and non-related parts of all repairs and installation for 1-year.

If you do not have natural gas, your remaining option is electric heat. Electric heat can be very costly, heat pumps are an economical alternative. A heat pump operates the air conditioning system in reverse transferring the heat energy from the outside air to your home. Even on cold winter days, heat pumps can be 1 1/2 to 3 times more efficient than electric heat.
